How I networked my way into Bank of Arizona's boardroom

In my world, there is not much better than a new business relationship formed through good old fashioned networking. That's why the story of how we signed our latest Signature Event sponsor, Bank of Arizona is super exciting to me!

It all started when Mitra and I attended the Phoenix Business Journal's July Biz Mix. We love attending their networking events because we always walk out with valuable connections and this night was no different.

Fearlessness is a gift, because where it exists, all things are possible

By 25 it appeared that I had it all. I had the high paying corperate career I'd always wanted, was a home owner and happily engaged to my fiancée. I was also bored out of my mind.

Get the RIGHT Players on your Team

Last week I shared a some thoughts on teamwork and networking in Who’s on YOUR Team?  (Link to post one).  After reading the post, a friend asked, HOW I pick the right players for my team.

Fill your key positions with people you like and trust

The first step is to know what positions you are looking to fill and what skill sets those players should have.  As I network, I look for people to recruit on my team.

Who's on YOUR Team?

Summer is a great time to get caught up on the latest hot books.  Sharing what you are reading and why it has helped you and your business makes great conversation when meeting old friends and new connections.  I’ve been reading a great new book, The Recipe: A fable for leaders and teams. In it, six brothers learn how by working together as a team they accomplish more than they each can do alone.  Hey, that’s just like networking – together you go farther!

Gelie Recieves NAWBO's 2010 Emerging Visionary Award

Excited, nervous, thankful, shocked are all words that describe how I felt on Wednesday evening, June 23rd when I received the Emerging Visionary Award at 25th anniversary of the National Association of Women Business Owners – Phoenix Metro Chapter (NAWBO) at the 2010 Desert Diamonds Awards Gala. I mean wow – seriously what an honor!

Gelie's Top 5 Networking To-Dos

Building your business through networking can be a tricky thing. Attending events can be time consuming, following up can fall through the cracks and no one wants to get sold to when meeting others for the first time. However, when done properly, your network could be one of your best referral sources. Nothing beats a third party referral and word-of-mouth advertising. But simply attending events and handing out your business card to people is not the way to build a network.

Extraordinary is not an accident

One of the questions people always ask me is how I got started doing what I do. To be honest, it was a combination of different things, and I most certainly had help. One of the very first people I met on my journey was Kandi Lee.

Signature Event Recap - May 4th, 2010

A BIG thank you to everyone that made it out to our 2nd Signature Event of the year! As expected, we had approximately 1,000 Phoenix networkers in attendance who were there to shake hands and build business relationships! The buzz and energy in the room were contagious and many valuable connections were made!

I'm just not that into your resume

I don’t typically share the emails that come through my inbox, but this one was just too good to pass up. It  inspired me to write a blog and I wanted to share it with the world. Who knows…maybe it will help someone :)

We’ll start with the email exchange (taking out all real names) and then go into my commentary. It might be difficult to follow.

I Yelp, you Yelp, we all Yelp for cupcakes!

I’m not really a big fan of cupcakes…but if I hear there are cupcakes as big as my face and they are being given away for free, I’m interested!

Feel Free to Never Call Me Again

So the other day I was sitting in my office and I got a call from someone I met at my Signature Event and talked to for about a minute. In the 60 seconds that we communicated, the guy never asked about me (I ended up telling him this was my event at the end), told me all about him AND proceeded to tell me that if I gave him ALL my contact info he’d enter me in a drawing to a win a gift card to a restaurant I’ve never heard of. Yay!

If you know me at all…you know I’m very playful. OK, dude, I’ll give you my number. Yes, my real one and I DARE you to call me :)

Don't Give that Spammer Your Biz Card!

OK...we've all been there when someone is asking us for our business card and inside your head the little voice says 'OMG, I don't want to give you my card. You're just going to add me to your spam list but I don't know what to do right now because I'm networking and I think I'm supposed to give you my card!'

You know what I'm talking about...right? So what do you do?
